Parma, May 20, 2026 -pathological daytime sleepiness will be the focus of a scientific congress scheduled for Saturday, May 23 from 8:30 a.m. at the University of Parma's "Sant'Elisabetta" Congress Centre (Science and Technology Campus).
Somnolence and specialty medicine: framing, diagnosis and treatment the title of the congress, which has the patronage of the University of Parma.
The disorder examined represents a clinical problem that is often underestimated and difficult to manage, frequently requiring a multidisciplinary approach. The appointment (accredited CME for several medical specialties) therefore wishes to involve specialists from different fields, seeking to facilitate discussion and dialogue between physicians, clinicians and scientists, as well as to encourage networking for research.
After greetings and presentation of papers, the first session, Daytime Sleepiness: definitions, measurement and clinical scenarios, will kick off, moderated by Liborio Parrino and Giuseppe Plazzi. This was followed by the second, Sonnolence: Clinical Management, Life Age, and Patient Perspective, moderated by Marcello Giuseppe Maggio and Stefano Meletti. The final panel discussion aims to translate the contents into shared corporate pathways for diagnosis, referral and treatment of hypersomnolence disorders
Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) constitutes a frequent but often underestimated symptom, with repercussions on health, safety, cognitive performance and overall quality of life. Interpretation of sleepiness requires accurate diagnostic framing, because the same symptom can be related to different clinical contexts: central hypersomnolence disorders, sleep-related respiratory disorders (OSA and related forms), otolaryngological conditions, comorbidities typical of different ages of life, and endocrinological, neurological, and psychiatric causes.
Participation in the congress is free of charge but inscription is required (QR code in the attached poster)
Registration is also possible for female students and students and non-physician health and health care and research professionals.
