The Neuroscience Unit of the Department of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Parma has taken up the legacy of the Department of Neuroscience, active from 2012 to 2016, and brings together professors and researchers from different backgrounds, all sharing scientific and cultural interests in the field of Neuroscience and related disciplines. Specifically, the Unit brings together professors and researchers belonging to the academic fields of medical physics (PHYS-06/A), Physics (BIOS-10/A), Physiology (BIOS-06/A), Pharmacology (BIOS-11/A), Psychology (PSIC-01/A, PSIC-01/B, PSIC-01/C, PSIC-02/A, PSIC-04/A) Neurology (MEDS-12/A), Psychiatry (MEDS-11/A), and Child Neuropsychiatry (MEDS-20/B). Numerous collaborations have been established within the Unit with the awareness that effective advancement of knowledge in the field of Neuroscience, both in the experimental and clinical fields, can only emerge from an integration of different skills and approaches.

The lines of research pursued within the Unit are focused on different aspects of the study of the nervous system and its functions, under both normal and pathological conditions. In particular, the following Laboratories of the Department of Medicine and Surgery are afferent to the Neuroscience Unit:

Medical Biophysics and Physics Laboratory,

Laboratory of Biogerontology and Geroscience (LBG)

Laboratory of Behavior Biology

Pharmacology Lab

Sleep Medicine Lab

Neuroanatomy Lab

Laboratory-of-Neurophysiology-and-Behavior-I-for-Nonhuman-Primates

Laboratory of Neuroethology for Nonhuman Primates

Laboratory of Social Cognitive Neuroscience

Laboratory-of-Psychophysiology
