Unit of Clinical and Experimental Medicine (MCS)

The Unit of Clinical and Experimental Medicine integrates internal medicine and translational research expertise, with the aim of understanding the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying chronic and acute diseases of the adult and developing innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
Scientific activities span several areas:

  • Clinical and experimental research in the areas of cardiology, pulmonology, nephrology, endocrinology, diabetology, rheumatology, medical oncology and complex internal medicine;
  • Study of molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying metabolic, cardiovascular, immune-inflammatory and cancer pathologies;
  • Development and validation of diagnostic, prognostic and predictive biomarkers for therapeutic response;
  • Controlled clinical trials of innovative drugs, devices and therapeutic strategies, in collaboration with public agencies and biomedical companies;
  • Precision medicine, with multi-omics and pharmacogenomic approaches aimed at personalization of care;
  • Research on integrated care, with focus on models of hospital-territory continuity and value-based medicine.
