On 18 February 2026, at Aula E of the University of Parma (Via dell’Università 12), the Department of Medicine and Surgery will host the Study Day “Family and Community Nurse (FCN)”, held within the framework of the 18th edition of the Italo-Brazilian Laboratory for Education, Research and Practices in Collective Health (2026), promoted by RedeUnita (Brazil), ReteUnita (Italy) and the University of Parma.
The initiative, delivered in person with the option of online participation, represents a high-level forum for dialogue among universities, health services and international contexts on the strategic role of the Family and Community Nurse in the reorganisation of community-based care, the management of chronic conditions, and the strengthening of proximity and continuity-of-care models.
Proceedings will be opened and chaired by Professor Antonio Bonacaro, Associate Professor of Nursing Sciences at the University of Parma. The programme includes an initial session dedicated to the institutional framework and regional organisational models, featuring numerous and highly valuable contributions from clinical and managerial staff of the Local Health Authorities (Aziende USL) of Parma and Piacenza, participating as delegates of Dr Emilio Cammi and Dr Andrea Contini, Directors of Nursing and Allied Health Professions of the respective Authorities, underscoring the strong integration between academia and the governance of territorial health services.
This will be followed by a session on international perspectives and nursing leadership, with contributions from Professor Ricardo Brug Cecim, Full Professor of Collective Health at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, and Professor Taís Veronica Cardoso Vernaglia, Director of the “Alfredo Pinto” School of Nursing at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro, who will provide a comparative analysis of Family and Community Nursing models within the Brazilian context.
The final part of the morning will focus on education and professional practice, with in-depth discussions on training pathways, field experiences and a synthesis of the current state of the art, concluding with a plenary discussion aimed at integrating regional models, educational pathways, professional practices and international perspectives.
The Study Day reaffirms the commitment of the Department of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Parma to the promotion of innovative models of community care, to sustained dialogue between academia and health services, and to the development of an advanced nursing vision aligned with contemporary challenges in healthcare systems and ongoing processes of territorial reorganisation.
