SOLACE Project - European project under the responsibility of Prof. Nicola Sverzellati

The SOLACE (Strenghtening the screening of Lung Cancer in Europe) project in which the University of Parma is taking part, co-funded by the European Union (EU4Health Programme 2021-2027 under grant agreement no. 101101187), has as its primary objective the implementation of lung cancer screening at the European level, outlining strategies to increase the participation of individuals at risk for lung cancer, a leading cause of death worldwide.

The project specifically identified specific target subpopulations:

  • Women
  • "Hard-to-reach" subjects (ethnic minorities, geographically isolated communities, and occupationally exposed individuals)
  • Subjects with lung diseases that increase the risk of lung cancer (COPD and pulmonary fibrosis)

In this context, the mission of SOLACE is to develop strategies and systems to identify potential "bottlenecks" in the implementation and dissemination of lung cancer screening, identifying possible differences across European countries.
