Where we are

What we do

Main lines of research:

1) The role of experience and learning in regulating the interference of emotional distractors during specific cognitive tasks (goal-directed tasks)

2) Emotional memory: qualitative and quantitative aspects of memories with pleasant and unpleasant content.

3) Emotions across the life span: mechanisms of emotional regulation in old age.

Techniques in use:

The behavioral component (measures of cognitive performance such as reaction time and accuracy) is always accompanied by measurement of surface cortical activity (EEG) in order to detect event-related potentials (ERPs) and oscillatory bands (theta, alpha, beta, gamma) in response to sensory stimulation (visual and auditory) used to study the nature of cognitive and emotional processes. In addition to EEG activity, eye movements (voluntary and reflex saccades, fixations) are also studied during visual stimulus exploration as a probe of attentional and motivational processes.

Main instrumentation provided:

Electroencephalographic activity (64-channel recording system); eye activity (TOBII Eye Tracker 4C)
