The mission led by Professor Antonio Bonacaro and Professor Vincenza Pellegrino, aimed at enhancing and expanding numerous academic and research exchange projects between Italy and Brazil, concluded with remarkable success. The mission centered around their participation in the 16th International Congress of Rede Unida at the Federal University of Santa Maria, a globally significant event. The Italian delegation also included representatives from the Municipality of Parma, the Municipality of Bologna, and former Senator of the Republic, Albertina Soliani.
During the congress, key topics focused on the theoretical approach to the concept of "Collective Health," which refers to the creation of a transdisciplinary health and well-being strategy. This approach integrates biomedical and social knowledge to appropriately consider the social and cultural determinants of health. These themes were further explored in additional technical discussions with academic and political authorities in Brazil, including sessions at the Federal Legislative Chamber in Brasília.
In this context, important collaboration agreements were signed between our university and the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro, as well as the University of Brasília. These agreements will enable the implementation of numerous initiatives in teaching, research, and innovation exchange.
The visit also laid a solid foundation for strengthening and continuing the work of the Italo-Brazilian Laboratory, which has been fostering the exchange of best practices between the two countries for years. This laboratory serves as a cultural and scientific bridge between Italy and Brazil, aimed at promoting innovation and updating the study models and services offered in the social and healthcare sectors.
The success of the mission marks the beginning of a new phase of collaboration, which will see increased research and teaching activities between Italian and Brazilian academic institutions, with the goal of creating increasingly inclusive and universal service models.
