The intensive teaching week of the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP), entitled “Meeting additional care needs (ACN) of disadvantaged women and girls: a holistic, inclusive, interdisciplinary, and collaborative approach,” has recently concluded successfully.
The initiative saw the active participation of a mixed delegation of students from the Degree Courses in Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Parma, accompanied by two academic tutors. They took part in the training activities alongside delegations from the International Hellenic University (Greece), University Francisco de Vitoria (Spain), Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences (Finland), and Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania).
Throughout the intensive week, students and tutors engaged in discussions on internationally relevant topics concerning the specific care needs of women living in socially, culturally, and economically disadvantaged conditions. Through an innovative educational approach—combining lectures, experiential workshops, and interdisciplinary group activities—the programme fostered critical reflection, the sharing of good practices, and the development of professional competencies that are attuned to inclusion and social justice.
The project, part of the initiatives promoted by the European Union to support international cooperation among academic institutions, represents a significant opportunity for personal and professional growth. It provided a multicultural educational environment in which participants could learn effective person-centred care strategies rooted in equity.
Professor Bonacaro, academic lead of the project, stated: “The University of Parma, through the active contribution of its students and the valuable support of the academic tutors, has once again confirmed its commitment to promoting a European-oriented healthcare education, grounded in the principles of interdisciplinarity, solidarity, and the empowerment of the most vulnerable segments of the population.”
